While you can indulge in regular bread on occasion, it tends to take up a lot of your carb allotment without adding much in the way of nutritional value. When you’re looking to buy low carb bread already made, shopping in your local store can be quite discouraging. We’re lucky to have a health-conscious store in our small town, but when you can’t find options locally, you can find many good choices on Amazon.
Carb Krunchers Low Carb Everything Bread
Perhaps one of the most popular breads on the market, Carb Krunchers Low Carb Everything Bread has a near-perfect rating on Amazon, with reviewers saying such things as, “Give it a try, its worth every bite!”, “WOW! this is delicious bread!” and ” It is worth the price because you can’t find this type of bread in a grocery store.” Described as slightly smaller than standard bread, this bread only has 11 grams of carbs for two slices and packs a whopping six grams of fiber in those slices.
I especially like the review titled, “Bread! I missed you!” The current price of $15 for two loaves is a bit spendy, but worth the money to find something that not only tastes good, but also offers such a low carb option. In fact, judging by reviews, you can’t go wrong with any Carb Krunchers bread products.
Mestemacher Fitness Bread
If you like a more sourdough taste, try Mestemacher Fitness Bread, made with Rye Kernels, Water, Whole Rye Flour, Oat Kernels, Whole Wheat Flour, Wheat Germ, Sea Salt and Yeast. Described as a more crumbly bread, Fitness Bread is ideal for toast, open-face sandwiches and dipping.
A little higher than our goal for carbs, this bread has 23 grams per slice, but has seven grams of fiber to help balance the scales. At 16 ratings, it averages 4.5 stars and is also billed as having a very high shelf life, which is great because you save by buying this bulk package.
Arnold Select Sandwich Thins
I LOVE Sandwich Thins. I went through a ST craze last year and had these every day for months. Straight out of the package, they’re a little chewy and not all that great, but one round in the toaster transforms them into a dream bread.
Every day, I would slather a little Miracle Whip, add a thick slice of cheese and a couple slices of nitrate-free lunch meat, cut it in half and nearly drool with pleasure. Having a hamburger with these is utter bliss – when is the last time you actually tasted the contents of your burger? It’s like a whole new experience.
Two slices (they come together but sliced, like English muffins) have 22 grams of carbs and five grams of fiber for the multi-grain variety. They also come in several flavors so you’re sure to find one you love.
Mind Your Portion Sizes
You can enjoy nearly any bread on the market, as long as you pay attention to portion sizes. I know the lettuce sandwich thing is pretty popular, but I never got into the idea. Maybe you could make a hybrid sandwich, using bread on the bottom and lettuce on top for a low carb bread treat.

One of the main reasons I like making homemade bread is the fact that we don’t have to worry about preservatives and potentially harmful chemicals.

The great thing about Atkins Bake Mix is that you can use it in place of flour for just about any baking need. It’s nice to have a multi-purpose mix to help keep your pantry organized, and from this mix you can make pancakes, bread, cookies, biscuits and muffins. You could probably use it as a low carb thickening agent too, for gravies, soups and general cooking. With more than 70 reviews, it averages 3.5 stars on Amazon. There are 11 grams of carbs for 1/3 cup of the mixture. By contrast, whole wheat flour has 29 grams of carbs in 1/3 cup; Atkins has slightly higher fiber too.
Bob’s Red Mill Low-Carb Bread Mix
I’m a big fan of Bob’s. In fact, the other day I picked up some Bob’s Scottish Oatmeal, which I’ll need to write and tell you about soon. Designed specifically for making bread, Bob’s Low Carb Bread Mix comes complete with bread machine instructions so you can just set it and forget it.
